Holy Lock Beer Bash

by Walt Sprecht MM1/SS

We came into Holy Loch after scoring in the upper 10% on an ORSE. The Captain told us to go to minimum staffing and take the Nukes over to the club. He gave us something like $100. We went over, got loaded and ate well.

The next morning we returned the Captain's change. The MPA came aft and said the Old Man was pissed because we hadn't used all his money, some of the guys must have not wanted to drink on the old man. A couple of us went forward and explained. The Nuke divisions back then were small compared to two years later. We had managed to free up 8 MM's, 1 IC, 3 EM's and 3 ET's. It was a Tuesday night and a Budweiser sponsored nickle night. Steak dinner was $1. No matter how hard we tried, we were incapable of consuming more than $38. The Old Man smiled, gave me the change and said to take the rest of the guys over tonight. Being the dedicated MM that I was, I saluted and said yes Sir! Then went to see the Doc about something for a headache.

We didn't manage to finish off the money the next night either, nickle night had been extended. Oh the things I have done for the good of the Navy.
