You’re encouraged to look there as well as here! Obviously, there’ll be some I miss and some I duplicate. HAUN .. .. .. Ricky Lee Haun, 71, passed away on March 4, 2025, at his home in Shawnee, Kansas. Rick was born on May 26, 1953, in Orrville, Ohio, to Delmar and Edna (Keim) Haun. After graduating from Orrville High School in 1971, he attended the University of Montana, where he studied journalism and developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Andrew Jackson, a ballistic missile submarine. Rick graduated from the University of Connecticut and began his career as a journalist before transitioning into advertising. His passion for writing and love of horsepower led him to John Deere, where he built a distinguished 28-year career, traveling the world and forging lifelong friendships. Rick married Cathryn on April 19, 1991, in Moline, Illinois. Together, they had two children, Eric Tyler and Meghan Elizabeth, and Rick warmly embraced Cathryn’s daughter, Gretchen Aline, as his own. Rick cherished time with his family, whether vacationing in Florida, fishing in Minnesota and Wisconsin, or traveling across Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Canada. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, grilling, landscaping, and birdwatching. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him so much happiness. He was known for his lively conversations, sharp wit, and ability to inspire those around him. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Cathryn; children, Eric Haun of Chicago, IL, Meghan Haun (Conner Seitz) of Enid, OK, Gretchen (Marie) Lausten of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Clayton Seitz of Enid, OK, Adele, Stephani, Margret, and Carl Lausten of Overland Park, KS, and sister, Debra Barnes of Orrville, OH. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Edna Haun, and younger brother, Jim Haun. DUNCAN .. .. .. Thomas "Scott" Duncan, passed away at his home in Gresham on February 22, 2025. Born on August 20, 1943, he was a graduate of Jefferson High School, where he met his future wife, Kathleen Bernard. After high school, he started work at the US Postal Service putting in 34 years before his retirement. In 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the nuclear submarine USS Sargo. After completing six years of active duty, he transitioned to the reserves, where he would serve for an additional 29.5 years, eventually achieving the rank of Senior Chief, he was the only person to be promoted to that rank in the nation. Scott and Kathleen were married on July 22, 1967, in Honolulu at Pearl Harbor, Sub Base Chapel. Their union of 57 years was blessed with two daughters. Their first daughter, Colleen, was born in 1968 in Honolulu, followed by Sarah in 1971 in Portland, Oregon. Sadly, Sarah passed away in 2020. Scott's funeral will be March 13th at 10:30 at St. Henry Church in Gresham with internment at Willamette Cemetery at 2pm. Please be there by 1:45pm if you will attend. DOUGLASS .. .. .. Daniel Douglass, 83, died March 1, 2025, unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home in Poland, Maine, where he lived with his daughter. Born May 30. 1941, in Lewiston to Leslie and Edith (Hodge) Douglass, Dan grew up in Buckfield. After graduating from Buckfield High School in 1959, Dan heeded the slogan to “Join the Navy and See the World.” He served as a submariner aboard the USS Lionfish, USS Entemedor, USS Pogy, and USS William H Bates, and traveled around the world. He ended his Naval career as a teacher at the submarine school in Groton, CT with the rank of Chief Torpedoman’s Mate (TMC, E7) then returned to Buckfield. He worked for several years with contractors at the mill in Rumford before going into semi-retirement, fixing player pianos and heading up the Buckfield water department. On Nov. 9, 1963, he married his soul mate, Martha Chesley of Sumner, who shared his love of family, adventure, music, and outdoors. They visited all 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces, often bringing family and friends to experience the beauty and joy with them. Dan enjoyed history, maps, camping, and stargazing and he liked to share his knowledge of these subjects with others. He could play several instruments and was generally to be found whistling or singing while working in his workshop either tinkering or building furniture. Throughout his life he excelled in sports; he loved baseball, basketball, fishing and golf. He was also an avid game player – cards, cribbage, acey-deucy, and dominoes. There was nothing he couldn’t accomplish, but the most important thing to Dan was his family. With love and humor, he and Martha raised their girls to be kind, loving, and strong individuals. Their grandchildren were a joy to them, and even though Martha never met her great grandchildren, Dan absolutely relished being a great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by many. Dan was predeceased by his parents, five siblings, and his beloved wife. He is survived by his brother Leslie Douglass (Jody) of Buckfield; three loving daughters, Angela Roberts (Donald) of Poland, Rebecca Anderson (David) of Cape Coral, Fla., and Pamela Farrar (Mitchell) of Satellite Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and eight great grand-children. HAMES .. .. .. Marty Hames, age 78, of Maumee, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at his residence. He was born on September 4, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Eldon Earl and Dorothy Catherine (Kapitzen) Hames. Marty attended Woodward High School for his freshman-Junior years of high school and then graduated from Whitmer High School in 1964. After high school, he proudly served his country aboard a Naval Submarine for the United States Navy. Marty continued his education at both the University of Connecticut and the University of Toledo. He loved photography, bowling, was an avid reader and especially enjoyed golfing with his golf buddies. Marty is survived by his wife of 22 years, Diane Hames; sister, Joann (Phillip) Corathers; nieces, Gretchen Corathers, Sara (Ike) Stump and nephew, James Corathers. He was preceded in death by his parents. | ||
