Five years later, Eddie's parents and siblings, Kathie and Ken, moved from Brooklyn to sunny San Diego, thus beginning his life-long love affair with the city. Eddie attended Blessed Sacrament and University of San Diego High School. During his high school years, he coached basketball and football at St. Therese Academy, and worked at Aunt Emma's Pancake House, where he met Charlene Duncan, beginning his second life-long love affair. He joined the Navy Reserves in 1967, serving on the submarine USS Diodon (SS-349). After completing active duty in 1969, Eddie and Charlene married and enjoyed the next 51 loving years together. In 1971, Eddie graduated from the University of San Diego. He joined his father to begin a career in real estate development, property management, and construction. He then founded a company specializing in roof replacement and tear-off. With great pride, Eddie saw his son, Edward Thomas Clare III, join him in this venture and continue to grow the company with the same ethos and values. Eddie and Charlene have four wonderful children: Jennifer Magee, Edward T. Clare, III, Laura Clare and Stephen Clare. He was also blessed with six fabulous grandchildren: Courtney & Morgan Magee, Penny & Parker Liu, Edward T. Clare, IV and Ashton Clare. Although Eddie had many lifetime friendships, his greatest joy was being with his family, his sister Kathie Monaco and especially her husband Joe Monaco. Some of his happiest times involved his children, their loving spouses, Eric Magee, Melissa Clare and Marc Liu, and his grandchildren. There were many happy memories of family vacations including Hawaii, Portugal, Italy, and Ireland. During his 74 years, Eddie was honest, loving, funny, kind and patient. He touched so many lives and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He lives on through the laughter, smiles, and joy of his family and friends. On August 1st, 2021, at Scripps-Mercy hospital, surrounded by his family, Eddie quietly passed from us to join his family and friends on the other side. For those of us left behind, we will miss him every day. His funeral and mass will be held Wed. August 11th, at 11 AM at St. Therese Church in Del Cerro.
