Jerry King Stout, CWO-03 (Ret.), passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 14, 1957, in Penn Yan, New York, Jerry lived a life defined by service, dedication, and kindness that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jerry began his distinguished career in the United States Navy in 1975. After qualifying in 1976, he served with honor aboard several vessels, including the USS Cavalla (SSN-684), USS Barb (SSN-596), USS Honolulu (SSN-718), and USS Holland (AS-32). He also served at Submarine Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Over his 23-year naval career, Jerry rose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 03 (CWO-03) before retiring from active duty. His commitment to his country and shipmates exemplified the highest ideals of military service.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Jerry continued to serve others through his work at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital. Later, he shared his patience and teaching skills at Cruise Control Driving School, helping countless Lowcountry students and adults learn to drive safely and confidently.
A man of faith and community, Jerry was a devoted member of St. John Catholic Church and actively participated in organizations reflecting his values. He was a proud member of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc., Charleston Base (USSVICB), the Knights of Columbus, the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), and served as President of his Homeowners Association.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Christine Stout; children Jacob (Jessica), Jonathon (Spencer), Rebecca Lynch (Dillon), and Danielle; stepchildren Sarah Niemira (Shayne), Andrew Schad (Thayra), Olivia Little (Kendall), and Jackson Schad; as well as numerous grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Rosemary and Ward Stout.
Jerry's unwavering dedication to others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and serve as a reminder of a life well-lived in service to others. |
