I have a electrical tab booklet done up in .jpg and .pdf formats from the USS "Ustafish" SSN-*** (shared by one of our own) published in November of 1967. Is this thing classified (or was it ever) after 54 years?

It may or may not be. Actually finding out could put you between the rock and the hard place. I remember back in the 60s that the piping and electrical manuals we used for quals for the FBM was worth around $5K. That figure came about when a couple were found in sailors possession on the beach in Holy Loch. It was circulated, I assume, around the squadron since it was posted on our BB. |

I found a Manual for the Canadian Browning 9mm Pistol marked Restricted. OK, a low classification, but why classify it anyway? The dumbest part was how to destroy it. Tie a string to the trigger. Cock it, safety on, bury it after sfatey's off, pull the string. God, these people must think we're total morons. Hairy. |

Many things were classified and rightly so. Problem comes over when to de-classify. Most items do not come with a declassification date. Someone therefore has to look at each item and then make a decision - with all of the accompanying paperwork. When I had the "Charge Books" account in Ovens, I sent back to the authority base a whole heap of stuff that was no longer relevant and never heard about it again. Our safes were never crammed to over-flowing.
Many South China Sea World War II patrols of long departed T-class submarines are still classified, even if there was no contact! |

John - I blew up the photo and it says For Official Use Only - which means that it is not classified per-se. Given the publication date, I would expect to see some "Group" designation if it was classified - i.e. GP-4, GP-3, etc. You may want to E-mail Rich Pekelney, as he has put many of the manuals on HNSA website thru the official declassification process that were FOUO or the old "Restricted" pre-nuke days. |

a. Piping systems USS Russell SSN 687 dated Oct 1983
b. Electrical and Electronic Systems USS Russell SSN 687 dated Oct 1983
c. Piping Systesm SSBN 598, 599, 600,601, 602 dated 1962
d. Electrical and Electronic Systems USS Parche SSN 683 dated July 1979 (Two copies)
e. Piping Systems USS Parche SSN 683 with change dated 1983
Being a DBF'er I had no idea what they were when I got them except they were Submarine related.
