Russian B-39 Foxtrot in Seattle - School of the Boat Photo
Series One: Forward Torpedo Room (Compartment No. 1)
Photo #119 shows one of the breech doors. These are manual, with a hydraulic assist for outer doors. The upper left shows the red drive peg in the blue housing that operated the rack on the door ring with a spur gear. The red peg in the foreground is the outer door actuator. There is a piece of angle-iron screwed to the brass ring that supposedly prevents them from operating until the breech is fully shut, and the block plate moves out of the way. Once they starte the process of opening the outer door, the black horizontal rod from the outer door actuator moves back, past the block plate on the door ring, so they supposedly cannot open the inner door. It also prevent the drain from being operated with the outer doo open, which happens in the block from the black vertical shaft dropping down. You can see the manula drain on the tube above the one highlighted here. The red bar on the right is part of the fold-down ladder to access the upper catwalk.
