Russian B-39 Foxtrot in Seattle - School of the Boat Photo
Series One: Forward Torpedo Room (Compartment No. 1)
Photo #121 shows one of the Main Vent Actuators. The ever present Soviet drip pan is secured under it. The small red item just to the left with a brass head is one of the compartment Freon Spray Nozzles. The hydraulic block at the top with a 1941 Chevrolet Stick Shift Lever is the Hydraulic Override for this actuator. If you need to activate the vent, and there is hydraulic pressure in the lines, no amount of "A" gangers on a 30" lever will be able to operate it. Pulling the arm to vertical disconnects the hydraulics and opens a bypass port between the two lines to the vent actuator. Just to the left and slightly below the bypass valve is one of the evidences of Sawzall's presence, a whacked pipe. Main STBD Pressure Ventilation Duct is horizontal across the bottom of the drip pan.
